Weekend Getaway

What are your plans for the weekend?

I'm going to pretend I am sitting next to this palm reading a stack of magazines.

Enjoy your Weekend!

Thursday

California Ranch Style

Academy Award-winning cinematographer Robert Richardson enlisted Marmol Radziner, a firm experienced in restoring mid-century homes, to bring life back to a 1952 Cliff May California Ranch home.

Located in a wooded canyon in West Los Angeles.

A 288 square foot skylight supplies ample light.

Bringing nature inside.

May's houses were made to incorporate the surroundings. May's used natural elements and connected to the California landscape.

The home was renovated but remained clearly a Cliff May house, just updated.

Read more about this renovation here.

Shed Some Love

My backyard shed looks nothing like these.

In fact, if I were to open the door to it I would probably be knocked unconscious by a renegade camping stove or something.

A kid retreat. Cute.

A feminine girly retreat. Although I would add sound proofing and a giant lock.

Maybe someday...

BBQ Break

I am so very tired of bbq'd this or that. We are having bbq'd steak AGAIN tonight. Yuck!

This looks delish! With fresh corn just down the street this is a no brainer.

This is for tomorrow night.

1-1/2 cups cooked rice, cooled
1 pint cherry or grape tomatoes, halved
1 cup fresh arugula
1 small red onion, cut in thin wedges

2 Tbsp. rice vinegar or red wine vinegar
2 Tbsp. olive oil

Weekend Lounge Around

If only it were a bit cooler.

I would be affordably dressed in this...

Dress at 15 Dollar Store

Relaxing on a West Elm lounge

under a tree reading these

but alas, I will most likely be in the house writing a paper with a sweatshirt on (my computer is under the a/c vent).

HAVE A CHILL WEEKEND!!
(Yep, that's what I said)

Pillow Love

What's new at Pottery Barn you ask?
Well for one, lots of pretty pillows!

I was mauling these pillows in PB the other day, so much that when I realized what I was doing I looked around to make sure no one was watching me. "Check out the crazy lady squeezing the pillows"

They really are pretty though.
They are a nice size, 20 inches, hand painted on cotton-linen.

Love them.

An Art History Assignment

As an assignment for my Art History class I had to do a virtual museum tour and analysis.

I chose to do the Metropolitan Museum of Art for my assignment.

As I was perusing the site, I stumbled across this in the Special Exhibitions section. It really struck me. I think it is unbelievably beautiful. The detail and color is awesome.

The Torment of Saint Anthony, ca. 1487–88.
Michelangelo Buonarroti (Italian, 1475–1564).
Lent by The Kimbell Art Museum, Fort Worth.

The Special Exhibition
Michelangelo’s First Painting
June 16, 2009–September 7, 2009
European Paintings Galleries, 2nd floor

The exhibition shows details on the painting before and after restoration, different views of the detail and infrared images of the underdrawing.

For someone like me who isn't planning a trip to New York in the near future it is a great way to educate yourself and see some beautiful art.

The site seems to be never ending, everywhere you go seems to lead you to more and more information.

Be sure to visit whether you are in New York or sitting in front of your computer.

Fallen Princesses

A photo project by Dina Goldstein.
The Disney princesses dealing with real life, as opposed to "happily ever after".

Poor Belle.

HAVE AN ENCHANTING WEEKEND!

Camping Is Now Better

Design Within Reach and a classic Airstream trailer. Hmmm, really? What a surprise! This little cutie is awesome. What a great way to see the country.

"The galley comes equipped with cooktop, stainless sink, Elkay faucet, fridge-freezer, Nelson Ball Clock and four Heller Dinnerware place settings.
There are recessed halogen lights, a skylight and the Wire Coatrack by Tom Dixon. There's also a lavatory and shower. The eco-friendly flooring has a matte ebony finish and the glossy overhead lockers are backlit and have metal perforated laminate doors. The panoramic windows have custom aluminum window treatments imported from Europe. For leisurely times outdoors, a fabric awning and two Tripolina Chairs are included.
There are Matteo linens and a Maharam Pillow, and the electronics package includes rooftop AC, Sony sound system and TV." (Design Within Reach)

I'll take one. Now where shall we go?

Outdoor Games

Holiday over, kids getting bored, need something new to do?

I think I am going to make one of these out of the scrap from our backyard project and make cute bean bags from some scrap fabric. So fun.

Yard Toss Game Board

Instructions from Lowes here.

This one is a no brainer on the easy scale.

Backyard Frisbee® Golf

This is an inexpensive, simple, and engaging activity for all ages and skills. First, make certain you have three or four Frisbees®, small notepads, and pencils (for keeping score). Then design a six to nine-hole Frisbee® golf course in your backyard or neighborhood. Create copies of the “hole” list and hand them out to your friends and family.

Then let the fun begin! Individuals will throw the Frisbees® with a goal of hitting each of the “holes” in the fewest number of throws. “Holes” can be anything: hitting a tree, shrub or trash can. If you need more space move to the neighborhood park and designate “holes” as street signs, park benches and playground equipment.

You could also designate holes with brightly colored beach towels or baskets, the object being to land the Frisbee on or in these items for your score.
