What do you think? Could you whip one together? I'm in, and I'll sell them for half the price. ;) Only $350. for the Popsicle stick lamp, it won't be vintage, maybe I could use some old sticks.

Just kidding.

I did think it was kind of interesting though, and being circa 1960's quite indelible.

Hey kids, Popsicles for breakfast, lunch and dinner!!

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!

Enjoy a Popsicle!

A Swell Award!

The beautiful and talented Frankie Murray of Swell Vintage has sent me this smart blog award. She makes the most wonderful jewelry. Visit her ETSY shop Swell Vintage and keep up with her via her blog Swell Vintage. Isn't she beautiful. I just found out she is Egyptian and Italian what an awesome combo. I am jealous!

***This award is bestowed upon a fellow blogger whose blog’s content or design is, in the giver’s opinion, brilliant.***

The rules: When accepting this auspicious award, you must write a post bragging about it, including the name of the misguided soul who thinks you deserve such acclaim, and link back to said person so everyone knows he or she is real.

Choose a minimum of 7 blogs that you find brilliant in content or design. Or improvise by including bloggers who have no idea who you are because you don’t have 7 friends. Show the 7 random victims’ names and links and leave a harassing comment informing them that they were prized with “Honest Weblog.”

Well, there’s no prize, but they can keep the nifty icon. List at least ten honest things about yourself. Then, pass it on!

Ten HONEST things about me.

1. I have a potty mouth. I swear like a sailor.

2. I eat carbs and I don't care.

3. I would rather eat a hamburger than a steak.

4. I am becoming a control freak.

5. I hate milk, but love cheese.

6. I want to own a llama ranch.

7. I won't wear anything but cotton clothing.

8. My husband used to grocery shop because I can not tolerate the grocery store. (I have to now)

9. I won't go to Starbuck's unless they have a drive-thru.

10. I STILL live 5 miles from where I was born.

There you go! I pass this on to everyone who would like to play. Play-have some fun!

Thanks Frankie, you're a doll!

The Circle of Life...

The circle of life... the cycle of stuff... what ever it is I have it.

I spent a fair amount of time yesterday taking pictures, writing snapppy? product descriptions, spell checking, uploading, and stocking Vintage a la Carte, my new Etsy store. I have to purge the collection of stuff I (and my mother) have been collecting over the years. So I finally have 3 items input and listed, I go to check my store front to see what it looks like and nothing is there. Gone! Nothing! I temporally freak out until I realize they are not gone, they are SOLD! Someone purchased all three items. I can not tell you how happy that makes me.

So what did I do?

I bought this...

from Fabric Carnival

and this...

and this...

from Fabric.com

a little bit of this....

and a little bit of this...

Yeah, I know. So much for purging the collection. Purge and replace, that's my new motto.

Please don't judge, it's an illness. No, really it is. I am sure of it.

Saturday

'memba these? His name is Tippy the Turtle and he lives in a pond. They used to make cats, dogs, elephants, you name it.

They may still sell them, I don't know, but I know this one has been hanging around along time. My daughter found him in a drawer at her grandmothers and has been bugging me for a week to "make" it. Maybe I'll teach her how to "make" it, after all it's the sewing equivalent of paint by numbers. Sew on dotted line.

Tuesday

So I have been trying to work on some things, but alas, I just keep adding junk on junk. I think I need a new workspace.

What I really need is some inspiration, I think the recent heat wave has fried my brain.

I think I will go through my blogroll and look at all of the beautiful things others are working on, maybe it will spark something in my overheated melon.

The chair....

No need to say more.

Monday

I have been going through my old BHG collection (June 1966) again. I love this black and white print. Too bad it's the equivalent of a paper tablecloth. I guess SCOTT products used to make the party dress as well as the party favors. Good news was you could purchase it for $1. plus .25 shipping and handling.

The "Paper Caper" created to make you the conversation piece at parties,
dashingly different at dances or perfectly packaged at picnics. Wear it
anytime...anywhere. Won't last forever... who cares! Wear it for kicks--
then give it the air.

Saturday

I am usually not a fan of the color blue, but this morning maybe?

As I was perusing crateandbarrel.com, prompted by an email blast promoting their current sale, I happened across these beauties.
I love the Azure...

but Rochelle is on sale.

You like?

Thursday

I found a Big Yank button while perusing my vintage button stash. I was curious about it's history so I made a quick trip to Google.

Big Yank was once one of the nation's largest manufacturers of work clothing, operating 24 plants in the 1940's. Like many clothing makers, it has watched revenues slip over the years as it lost business to factories overseas. It was bought out buy a Fortune 500 conglomerate in the late "80's and it is no more.

Buy American.

What's old is new again.
Here is a room and from the November 1959 edition of BHG.

You can obtain the same look currently at Urban Outfitters. They really have some cool stuff, if you like the mid century look.

Sunburst Wall Clock

Edie Sofa in Martini Olive

Danish Modern Side Table

I can not get me enough of the mid century design. I wish I wouldn't have convinced my mother to get rid of all her "junk" a few years back.

Tuesday

Karen's birthday present turned out so cute. I just had to share.

This fabric is so cute. I love it. I have made a pillow out of it but so far I have been procrastinating about listing it for sale. I want to keep it.

This is vintage fabric, not sure how old it is, but it is 60's or 70's era for sure.

Keep it, or sell it and let someone else enjoy it?

Monday

The Gap has the cutest bags right now. I am usually not a fan of the Gap but these are really cute for summer.

...the red one too.

of course!

Friday

BHG October 1965-100 ideas under $100.

I know everyone has seen this DIY project, over and over. Pot on pot planter, it shows up in most DIY quicky articles.

But how about this one?

A fishkeeper hanging lamp. Kind of creative, any takers?

Textile ArtsFruit-boxWelcome back a classic. Stig Lindberg's designs from the late 1940's through the 1960's, including Fruit-box, Melody, Paradise, and Pottery, are back in production after enjoying successful exhibitions at Sweden's National Museum of Art and the Porcelain Museum of Gustavberg. Fruit-box's graphic take on nature comes in four colorways, printed on linen-cotton. P.O. Box 3151, Sag Harbor, NY 11963; 888-343-7285; txtlart.com. (Interior Design Livewire)

I certainly would love to find some of the originals in a secret stash somewhere!

New Storage Idea

Hit the jackpot again! I found another cool treasure and acquired some additional storage.

Vintage Samsonite luggage, I think they are maybe late 1940's or so. I certainly would hate to have to use these to travel, they are really heavy, even empty.

I have filled them with fabric to store, I can barely lift them. I have disguised them as home decor for my entry. Also, if I ever have to leave in a hurry they are right there by the door. :)

Tuesday

Classic Mirrors

Mirrors reflect your good taste.

An ad from the May 1965 edition of BHG. A designer, Ruth L. Strauss, demonstrates how to use different styles of mirrors to achieve different effects. Colors and patterns may come and go, but a few classic pieces will last a lifetime. The mirror, chair and table would work with almost any trend of the last 40 years.

I really love, love, love is the red wingback chair. Reeeeaaaallllyyyy!

Monday

Welcome to my "Studio"

Yeah sure. This used to be my living room. What a beautiful mess. It is kind of driving me nuts. I have to think of some ways to stash it, but still be able to be somewhat organized and aesthetically OK, plastic bins make me as crazy as the mess. Oh well. To have such problems!?

Friday

Still stylish

Yesterday, as I was searching for some fabric inspiration I found something equally exciting (to me at least). I found some vintage (1965-1968) Better Homes and Gardens magazines. I haven't had the time to look through them all, but I flipped through a couple of them last night.

I think this room is fabulous! It is from the August 1967 edition. The cost of the magazine was 35 cents AND it was still the larger (12" x 9") size format.

I may have to come up with a better way to get the pics on my computer, but I just can't bring myself to tear out the pages. I cannot wait to share more of these awesome treasures.
